The Hungarian capital is comprised of two cities: Buda – the hilly West side of the Danube, and Pest, the flat East side.

Between Buda and Pest, along the Danube river, you can find four of Budapest’s most beautiful bridges: Chain Bridge, Margaret Bridge, Liberty Bridge and Elisabeth Bridge. The most famous is the Chain Bridge (Széchenyi Lánchíd), which offers a fascinating spectacle at night, by it’s decorative lights.

In the middle of the Danube, between the bridges of Margit Hid & Arpad Hid, you can find a beautiful green spot – Margaret Island. The capital’s most beautiful park can be found here.

The city is rich in UNESCO World Heritage sites.

1. Buda

On the west bank, you can find the Castle Hill – Buda Castle, the oldest part of the city containing the eponymous Castle and many of Budapest’s best-known attractions (Fishermen’s Bastion – which offers a marvelous view, Labyrinth, Mathias Church, and Maria Magdalena tower).

Also situated in Buda, Gellért Hill, worth a visit, due to its superb panoramas from the viewing terraces. The old fortress and the statue of Liberty are an important cityscape.

2. Pest

On the East bank is Pest, covering the modern commercial core of the city; most beautiful buildings in the eclectic style can be seen here, for example the outstandingly beautiful Opera House.

St. Stephen’s Basilica largest church in Budapest occupies a very prestigious position on the list of Budapest sights that are not to be missed.

The City Park is the largest green area of Budapest. It conceals the Castle of Vajdahunyad, the Széchenyi thermal bath, the Zoo and the Amusement park. At the entrance to the City Park you can visit the capital’s most spectacular square – The Heroe’s square.

The monumental building of the Parliament – largest building in the country, situated right on the bank of the Danube, is one of the biggest attractions of Budapest. It hosts the diet and the crown jewels.

You definitely have to make a stop in Ferenciek Square to view the amazing architecture.

Vaci Street , the very downtown of Budapest, offers access to famous cafés, terraces, elegant shops, boutiques and theatres.

The Danube promenade assures a long relaxing walk, from where one can have a beautiful view of the few monuments that we’ve mentioned.

Budapest is also renowned for it’s public baths, and it gained it’s nickname – “ City of Spa”, due to the highest number of thermal springs (118) within the city limits in the world.

The Széchenyi Baths, are not only the largest bath complex in Europe with their 15 pools, but also the most pleasant baths in the capital.
