Viking River Cruises Launches Two New Frequent Flyer Programs Allowing Passengers to Earn and Use Miles

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ — Viking River Cruises(R), the world’s largest river cruising company, has started two new frequent flyer programs to give guests both the ability to earn more frequent flyer miles and to use frequent flyer miles for air upgrades. With Viking’s E-Check program, passengers earn double frequent flyer miles on select airlines when they pay by electronic funds transfer (EFT). At the same time, Viking Air Plus, Viking’s exclusive custom air department will now allow passengers to use their own frequent flyer miles to upgrade their international flights, an industry first.
“Our E-Check program gives guests the convenience of paying by E-Check or with a paper personal check, yet still receive double frequent flyer miles,” explained Richard Marnell, Viking’s Senior Vice President of Marketing. “Every dollar paid by E-Check for cruise, air, taxes, fees or surcharges earns two frequent flyer miles.” The E-Check program may be combined with any special offers or services and is free to guests. Passengers who do not wish to receive double frequent flyer miles may instead opt for a $100 per stateroom shipboard credit. This promotion continues until September 30, 2008.
“We are very proud of our Viking Air Plus frequent flyer upgrade program,” stated Mr. Marnell. “Our agents make all the arrangements for our customers and give them their flight schedules as soon as we receive confirmation from the airline.” The Viking Air Plus service may be combined with any special air offers, and includes all transfers. Initial airline partners include Delta, Northwest and United, with more carriers to come. The fee for this service is $100.
